A three year agreement: CUPE 409 and District ratify new contract

To the members of our school community,

On behalf of the Board of Education, and alongside Dave Bollen, President of CUPE 409, we are very happy to announce that a new CUPE contract has been settled in our district. The Board of Education and the CUPE staff of New Westminster Schools have now ratified the three year agreement, that will be effective from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025.

We’re all proud of the integral work CUPE staff do and are happy to have worked together to settle on an agreement that addresses the needs of those staff members, without any disruption to the work and learning happening in our schools.

CUPE 409 workers in our schools – from clerical and custodial, to Educational Assistants and maintenance crews – play vital roles in ensuring we continue to deliver quality, accessible education to students, and they are critical in keeping schools safe, clean and properly supported.

We look forward to continuing to work together, as we keep our schools working for everyone in them,
Gurveen Dhaliwal, Board Chair, New Westminster School District (No. 40)
Dave Bollen, President, Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 409
