Fall 2019

Severe Weather Conditions

November 25, 2019 – As we head into winter, please be aware that all schools in the New Westminster School District will remain OPEN, if at all possible, during severe weather conditions, including snowfalls.

In rare instances where a school closure is warranted, the decision will be made by 6:30 a.m. at the latest and will be announced over the radio stations CKNW AM 980 and CBC AM 690.

Phone calls and emails will also be made to parents and guardians who are part of our SchoolMessenger System. Further, school and district websites will be updated  accordingly.

Student safety is our priority and we ask that if a parent/guardian feels that a child cannot travel safely to school, then they should make alternate arrangements for their child.  Student absences due to unsafe travel to school during inclement weather  conditions will be excused.  We also encourage parents/guardians to make advance alternate plans in the event of an unexpected school closure.

If you have any questions, please speak with your school principal.

See Letter from the Superintendent of Schools regarding severe weather conditions.

Best Routes to School

September, 2019 – Walking to school promotes healthy and safe communities and benefits children and families. New Westminster Schools is pleased to collaborate with the City of New Westminster, Translink, and HASTe BC to develop best routes to schools.

Foundation Skills Assessment

September 16, 2019: Foundation Skills Assessment  (FSA) is a set of reading, writing and numeracy assessments of student learning in Grades 4 and 7.

These provincial assessments are administered in the fall and provide a ‘snapshot’ of how well BC students are doing in key foundational areas of learning. They also play a role in helping plan for student success.

We invited you to read the information brochure below for parents, and a Letter from our Superintendent of New Westminster Schools:
