Answering the call to conserve energy

December 10, 2018 – BC’s natural gas supply continues to be limited this winter in the wake of the Enbridge pipeline rupture near Prince George in October.

In response to the call by FortisBC for customers to adopt conservation measures, New Westminster Schools is continuing to lower temperatures across the District until the situation is fully resolved. We have temporarily set temperatures in our schools at 21 degrees from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at 18 degrees from 12 p.m. to 8 a.m.

We are participating with other school districts and large natural gas consumers to help ensure gas reserves are adequate to meet the region’s needs. However, as colder winter weather settles in, we suggest all staff and students dress accordingly to accommodate the reduction in temperatures.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact your school principal. For more information, please see the BC Ministry of Education bulletin.

Thank you for your continued support and participation.
