New Westminster Schools begins work on new strategic plan
Work is starting a new strategic plan for New Westminster Schools. The district has engaged consulting company, Roots & Rivers, to help create an updated learning and engagement roadmap will guide New Westminster Schools over the new few years with collected input from students, staff, and parents/caregivers. more

Fraser Health Authority releases statement on avian influenza
On November 12, the Fraser Health Authority released a region-wide statement to school districts about the province’s and Canada’s first case of avian influenza caused by the H5 virus. Testing is still in progress to confirm the positive result. This is a rare occurrence and there have no further cases at this time and no known exposure at any school. more

Queensborough Middle School teacher-librarian named Librarian of the Year
Queensborough Middle School’s teacher-librarian Lisa Seddon was named “Librarian of the Year” this month by the BC Teacher-Librarians’ Association (BCTLA) and honoured with a plaque for her outstanding work in the field. more

New Westminster Schools is pleased to announce Geraldine Lawlor will join the district as its new associate superintendent this coming September. Lawlor, a 32-year veteran in education, previously worked as a director of instruction (graduation and innovation) for Coast Mountains School District (SD82) in Terrace, British Columbia. more
