That&#8217;s when we saw student musicians, TV news cameras, and special guests on hand to voice their concerns, present initiatives, or capture the action.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Welcome!\u00a0 We&#8217;re live-streaming to connect with our broader community&#8230;.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>New for 2019<\/strong>:\u00a0 We&#8217;re live-streaming our Board of Education meetings starting April 30 &#8211; a move to help the community connect and engage in our conversations about education issues.<\/p>\n<p>You can view our first live Board meeting Tuesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. by accessing the online video stream <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2UIQKRe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>\u00a0and at:\u00a0<strong>tinyurl.com\/sd40stream.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and accessibility, the Board will live-cast both its regular and special open board meetings, as well as its education and operations committee meetings. \u00a0Archived recordings will also be available.<\/p>\n<p>To view a live Board meeting, visit the<a href=\"https:\/\/newwestschools.ca\/archive_241212\/our-board\/meeting-agendas-minutes-motions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Board Meeting Schedule webpage<\/a> when the meeting is in session (typically at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings).<\/p>\n<p>Trustees passed a resolution in December 2018 asking staff to investigate options and recommendations for live-streaming public meetings.\u00a0A number of school districts &#8211;\u00a0 including the Vancouver School Board, Surrey, Langley, Victoria and Nanaimo-Ladysmith &#8211; have recently adopted the approach of providing both written and recorded records of open meetings to the public.<\/p>\n<p>On February 26, the board directed staff to implement the project, estimated to cost under $6,000, and to conduct a review in four months to determine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>uptake by the public<\/li>\n<li>feedback about the experience, and<\/li>\n<li>the value of the project for increased public engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The board is committed to holding its regular monthly Education Policy and Planning Committee meetings at various schools throughout the district as a way to meet students, parents, and staff and hear directly from school communities.<\/p>\n<p>Trustees have visited Fraser River Middle School and Queen Elizabeth, \u00c9cole Herbert Spencer and\u00a0\u00c9cole\u00a0Lord Tweedsmuir elementary schools since January.
