{"id":19160,"date":"2020-03-17T14:38:14","date_gmt":"2020-03-17T21:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newwestschools.ca\/archive_241212\/?p=19160"},"modified":"2020-03-29T20:23:18","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T03:23:18","slug":"indefinite-suspension-of-all-k-12-instruction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newwestschools.ca\/archive_241212\/indefinite-suspension-of-all-k-12-instruction\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcement: Indefinite suspension of all in-class instruction for BC&#8217;s K-12 learners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today the provincial government announced that it would be indefinitely suspending all in-class instruction for BC\u2019s K-12 learners. This temporary measure \u2013 in response to the COVID-19 outbreak \u2013 is being put in place to help keep our students, staff, families and wider community safe.<\/p>\n<p>There are many questions we know you have. We have many ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>We are working with all our partners in this \u2013 health authorities, the Ministry of Education and various other stakeholder groups \u2013 to help build the plan.<\/p>\n<p>What we do know was included in today\u2019s briefing, where Minister Fleming guided us through the basic direction we have so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each district has been tasked with submitting plans around how to ensure continuity of learning for its students<\/li>\n<li>Every student will receive a final mark<\/li>\n<li>All students on track to graduate this year will graduate<\/li>\n<li>The province is working with post-secondary institutions to make sure the transition for our grade 12 graduates is supported<\/li>\n<li>Plans to accommodate the specific child care needs for students whose parents are on the frontline of fighting the COVID-19 outbreak (such as our province\u2019s health care workers) are being made<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The formal announcement from the Ministry can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/newwestschools.ca\/archive_241212\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/MinistryOfEd-covid-letter-school-suspension.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MinistryOfEd-covid-letter-school-suspension<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over the next days and weeks plans will become better established and we\u2019ll have answers to more of your questions.
