<\/strong>The Connaught Heights Elementary Code of Conduct has been established to maintain a safe, respectful and enthusiastic learning community. The purpose of our Code of Conduct is to make explicit for students, staff, parents, guardians and the community, all our shared values and beliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This code of conduct promotes the values expressed in the BC Human Rights Code, which respect the rights of all individuals in accordance with the law, as well as the School Act of British Columbia<\/a> and the New Westminster School District Code of Conduct<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This code of conduct prohibits discrimination based on race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital or family status, age, physical or mental disability, gender, and sexual orientation or gender identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Connaught Heights we are aware that\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unacceptable behaviour includes actions that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are hurtful to self or others physically or emotionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are damaging to the learning environment or school property.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Use of personal digital devices<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per Ministerial Order 89 the use of personal digital devices at school is to be restricted for educational purposes, to promote online safety and focused learning environments. Personal digital device (PDD) means any personal electronic device that can be used to communicate or to access the internet, such as a cell phone or a tablet. Other examples include smart watches, digital accessories (earbuds), gaming devices, and electronic toys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Connaught Heights, access to and the use of personal digital devices will not be permitted unless a designated device supports a specific curricular objective and is part of instructional planning. These exceptions are typically aligned with goals outlined for students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), Learning Support Plan (LSP), or medical or health issue that specifically delineates the need for these devices for full inclusion in specific learning activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security and storage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that security and storage of personal digital devices is the sole responsibility of the owner\/user. The district assumes no responsibility for the safety, security, loss, repair or replacement of such devices. If students must bring a device to school, they are encouraged to ensure they are stored in lockers or kept in a secure location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When addressing misconduct, factors such as frequency, severity, and the student\u2019s age, maturity, and personal circumstances will be considered. We focus on restorative consequences wherever possible, aiming to teach and support positive change.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
