It’s Show Time for Student Talent – and you’re invited!

Check out jazz, dance, theatre, art and more…

Students at New Westminster Secondary School have been honing their skills for the year in dance and musical theatre programs, in visual arts and photography, in choral performance and jazz ensembles – and now it’s show time!

Celebrate student talent nurtured in the large and vibrant Visual and Performing Arts Department at NWSS.  See the schedule below…and take in some of the more than half a dozen performances unfolding around the city in the next six weeks!

May 11 – JAZZ NIGHT – SAPPERTON HALL (Brown Paper Tickets)

The NWSS Jazz Ensembles invite you to come on out and celebrate another successful year of jazzy shenanigans!

The NWSS Musical Theatre Fundamentals Class is pleased to present What is Love? A Musical Revue.  Love truly does spark a complex set of emotions; and we invite you to experience the journey with us as we explore the many feelings connected to love through song, dance, and drama.  Enjoy music from Thoroughly Modern MillieHairsprayGreaseBeautifulWicked and more!  These students are beyond thrilled to have an opportunity to entertain our community while sharing their passion and love for musical theatre performance.  Let’s see what this crazy little thing called love is all about!

The NWSS Dance Department introduces their end of semester Dance Show. The senior dancers present “Get A Clue,” a show loosely based on the popular whodunit board game “Clue”. Come join our high school students who have to solve the mystery, complete with hip hop, suspects and intrigue!The junior dancers present “Welcome to the Magic Show,” a series of fascinating dances encircled by illusion! Come join us for a fun filled evening packed with creative and entertaining performances!

June 4 at MASSEY THEATRE (TicketsNW)

The NWSS Senior Acting class presents “ROCKSOLID”. This annual event is a collaborative work created by students to promote respect and caring in our community. Students present two shows: “F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.” takes a humorous approach by presenting a S.W.A.T-like team that interrupts a bullying incident and demonstrates the sad road that bullying behavior leads down. “Bullies Anonymous,” follows a bully who is “in recovery” from bullying, one year clean. Follow him as he learns to leave bad habits behind and befriend those who used to trigger him.

June 5th-30th at QUEEN’S PARK GALLERY

Come to see our second annual NWSS Grad Art Show event from June 5th-June 30th.  Our Queen’s Park Gallery Galla opening event will be held on June 5th from 6-8 pm in Centennial Lodge.  We are encouraging Grads and their families to come to the gallery early on Grad night, June 27th, to have their photos taken in the gallery with their artwork.

NWSS Senior Theatre Company Class Presents, “Who Poisoned His Meatball?”

When arrogant businessman Nero Sharpe dies suddenly after eating a meal at Luigi’s Italian restaurant, everyone asks, “Who poisoned his meatball?”  Staff members, customers, and family members begin a comedic exploration of Whodunit? to determine who could benefit from Nero’s untimely demise.  Was it the salad chef?  Was it Luigi?  Nero’s wife?  Or could it have been Nero’s mistress?  Join in the fun as the quirky characters go back in time to retrace their steps as they work to reveal the facts of this entertaining mystery.
