Making Music, Making Connections: Winter Band Concert Nov. 30 with Professionals and Students
Trumpets, trombones and all that jazz! Professional Vancouver Symphony Orchestra musicians are joining forces with students at New Westminster Schools for a day of music and mentorship topped by a public Winter Band Concert on Nov. 30, 2016.
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet along with students from New Westminster Secondary school and Glenbrook and Fraser River middle schools will share the fruits of their musical partnership onstage at the Massey Theatre, Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
“This will be a very special evening,” said Steven Clements, NWSS Director of Bands – and one that he promises will inspire both students and audience.
“We hope that members of the community will come out and enjoy the show.”
The NWSS music department strives to create mentorship opportunities for students, and the experience of making music and connections across grade levels, schools and the professional community can last a lifetime, Clements said.
The VSO musicians will work with students throughout the day before the musicians perform together on the Massey Theatre stage in the evening. For students like Caitlyn Collantes, a grade 12 student and member of the Senior Concert Band, the opportunity work with such high level musicians “inspires me to do better and gives me an idea of what I can aspire to,” she said.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Massey Theatre Box Office, through Massey Theatre’s ticketing service at Tickets NW, or 604-521-5050.
