New school for Richard McBride: We want to hear from you!

The public is welcome to share ideas and aspirations for a new Richard McBride Elementary School at an upcoming community consultation on Wednesday, December 5.

The drop-in feedback session will be held in the gymnasium at Richard McBride Elementary School between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.  The school is located at 331 Richmond Street.

Community input is valued as we launch the first phase of the design process.  A second opportunity for public consultation will be held in early spring when we will share our progress.

The BC Ministry of Education announced a  $22.6 million seismic replacement for the current 89-year-old building on March 9, 2018. A new school will ensure students learn, grow and thrive in a welcoming, inclusive, safe and modern school environment.

In August, management of the replacement project was awarded to Cascade Facilities Management Consultants, the successful bidders following a request-for-proposal process.

In September, IBI Architectural Group was selected from 10 competing firms to provide architectural design services for the project.

The architects will be on site during the December 5 community consultation, with visuals, posters and floor plans of existing schools in Metro Vancouver to inspire ideas and discussion.

Completion of the new school is expected in 2021.
