The district\u2019s second <a href=\"http:\/\/newwestschools.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/3202_NWS_Aborignal_Booklet_v7-C.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/newwestschools.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/3202_NWS_Aborignal_Booklet_v7-C.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement<\/a> reflects a shared commitment among Indigenous communities, schools and the Ministry of Education and Child Care to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Honour the diverse histories, cultures and contributions of Indigenous Peoples.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase awareness of both historical and current issues affecting Indigenous communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrate Indigenous content and resources into classroom learning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support the academic, social, and emotional success of Indigenous learners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Key goals include building cultural pride, improving literacy outcomes, and supporting smooth transitions at all stages of a student\u2019s school journey from early learning through to graduation and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A dedicated team provides cultural, academic and personal support to students across the district. At NWSS, students can connect with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>District cultural facilitator<\/strong> who supports Indigenous students at the secondary level and helps deliver cultural programming across all grades from kindergarten to Grade 12.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>District Indigenous support workers<\/strong> who provide academic, social, and cultural support to students throughout the district. They also liaise between schools and families and help develop and implement Indigenous teachings in classrooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Indigenous youth workers<\/strong> who offers one-on-one support to Indigenous students.
