Each course is scored out of seven, for a maximum of 42 points. Up to three additional points are available for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A minimum of 24 points is required to be awarded the diploma.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students also have the option to take individual IB courses as part of the certificate program, which recognizes their participation in specific IB subjects without completing the full diploma.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle wp-block-ub-content-toggle-block\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-block-ca899fa3-a004-4c56-be3b-f9289e2471c1\" data-mobilecollapse=\"false\" data-desktopcollapse=\"true\" data-preventcollapse=\"false\" data-showonlyone=\"false\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion\" style=\"border-color: #f1f1f1; \" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-block-\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title-wrap\" style=\"background-color: #f1f1f1;\" aria-controls=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-ca899fa3-a004-4c56-be3b-f9289e2471c1\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title ub-content-toggle-title-ca899fa3-a004-4c56-be3b-f9289e2471c1\" style=\"color: #000000; \">External assessment<\/p>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-toggle-wrap right\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><span class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-state-indicator wp-block-ub-chevron-down\"><\/span><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div role=\"region\" aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-content-wrap ub-hide\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-ca899fa3-a004-4c56-be3b-f9289e2471c1\">\n\n<p>Most IB courses are assessed through final examinations, held in May of the Grade 12 year. These exams may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Essays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Structured problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Short-response and data-response questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Text analysis and case studies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limited multiple-choice questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to exams, students complete a small number of externally assessed assignments, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibo.org\/programmes\/diploma-programme\/curriculum\/dp-core\/theory-of-knowledge\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.ibo.org\/diploma\/curriculum\/core\/knowledge\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Theory of Knowledge essay<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibo.org\/programmes\/diploma-programme\/curriculum\/dp-core\/extended-essay\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.ibo.org\/diploma\/curriculum\/core\/essay\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Extended Essay<\/a>, and world literature assignments. These are completed over time under teacher supervision and marked by external IB examiners.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion\" style=\"border-color: #f1f1f1; \" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-block-\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title-wrap\" style=\"background-color: #f1f1f1;\" aria-controls=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-1-ca899fa3-a004-4c56-be3b-f9289e2471c1\" tabindex=\"0\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title ub-content-toggle-title-ca899fa3-a004-4c56-be3b-f9289e2471c1\" style=\"color: #000000; \">Internal assessment<\/p>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-toggle-wrap right\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><span class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-state-indicator wp-block-ub-chevron-down\"><\/span><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div role=\"region\" aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-content-wrap ub-hide\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-1-ca899fa3-a004-4c56-be3b-f9289e2471c1\">\n\n<p>In addition to final exams, teacher assessment plays a key role in most IB courses.
