Schools closed Monday due to heat
Due to the extreme and unusual heat we are experiencing in the Lower Mainland, a decision has been made to close all New Westminster Schools tomorrow (Monday June 28th, 2021), mirroring what is happening in other districts around us as well.
This is not a decision we take lightly, as we recognize this is challenging for some families. But in light of additional considerations about our reduced ability to use fans during COVID, and given mask regulations that would provide an additional layer of heavy discomfort for all, we feel this is the appropriate choice as we strive to keep everyone safe and cool.
Employees will be on site only for the first few hours of the day, should you need to pick something up from your child’s school. Please call the school office to coordinate a time should you require access.
An assessment about the following day will be made tomorrow afternoon, and we will update all parents and staff, either way.
Thank you for your understanding as we work together to keep everyone safe, hydrated and as cool as possible.
