Skwo:wech Elementary: delay of open

The following letter has been shared with the Skwo:wech Elementary School community, as it pertains to the replacement school being built on the site.

Dear students, parents, caregivers, staff and community members,

As we strive to give you as much notice as possible, we’re writing today to let you know that it has now been confirmed that we will not be able to meet our desired move-in date to the new Skwo:wech Elementary, which had been tentatively planned for over the winter break.

Our capital project leads and contractors have been monitoring and navigating supply chain issues throughout this build. But the damage to infrastructure caused by the rain and flooding over the course of this week has now also cut-off delivery of outstanding supplies we are waiting on, at a critical time.

The compounded supply chain issues mean that we will need to push back the previous projected opening date.

We are working closely with our builder, Heatherbrae Builders, to:

  • assess the impact and the new delivery estimates for the products we’re waiting on, and
  • evaluate how this has impacted the availability of the crews we need to do the work.

As you know, we had scheduled two days of remote learning on either side of the break to allow staff time to pack final items and set up their classrooms. We will still move forward with a similar plan, once we are able to confirm the new dates for the move … ensuring we give everyone as much notice of those new dates as we can.

We will let you know as soon as we have more information on timing.

Thank you for your understanding,
Karim Hachlaf
Superintendent of Schools / CEO
