Supporting the learning agenda: New Westminster Schools welcomes new Secretary-Treasurer, Kim Morris

April 25, 2018 – New Westminster Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Kim Morris, a well-respected Secretary-Treasurer with 11 years’ experience in BC northern and interior school districts, as the new Secretary Treasurer for the school district. Her position begins effective July 2, 2018.

Morris replaces Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Lorenz who after three years with the district is leaving for a position with the Okanagan-Skaha school district.

Lorenz leaves New Westminster Schools’ preliminary budget for the 2018-2019 school year in “great shape, allowing the Board every confidence in moving forward,” said Board of Education Chair Mark Gifford.

Superintendent Karim Hachlaf welcomed Morris to the New Westminster Schools district leadership team, describing her as a collaborative team player who works effectively with trustees, staff, unions, parents, and public stakeholders in support of a robust, engaging and student-centred learning environment.

“What stands out for me is the fact that she is a Secretary-Treasurer who has the learning agenda in mind,” said Hachlaf.

In her services as a secretary-treasurer since 2007 in the Kootenay Lake ( SD8), Kootenay-Columbia (SD20) and Prince Rupert (SD52) school districts, Morris has been noted for her positive energy, for her inclusive and empowering approach to decision making, and for financial processes described as “transparent, collaborative, inclusive and honourable.” She brings 29 years of executive and financial management experience to her leadership position.

“We look forward to her role as part of a team guided by a clear vision and values that will strengthen the potential and advancement of New Westminster Schools,” said Hachlaf.
