Career Education courses
Career-Life Education (CLE 10)
Career-Life Education 10 helps students start thinking about their future and the steps they’ll take after secondary school. The course introduces tools and strategies for planning ahead and making informed choices about school, work, and life.
Students will:
- Explore different roles, careers and community resources.
- Learn how to present themselves in person and online.
- Practice respectful communication in school, work and community settings.
- Connect with mentors and supportive adults.
- Research post-secondary paths, job trends, and planning tools like budgeting and safety.
CLE 10 helps students choose the right courses for Grade 11 and prepares them to look for jobs, write resumes, practise interview skills, and find volunteer or work experience that supports their goals.
All Grade 10 students are automatically enrolled in CLE 10 as part of their schedule.
Career-Life Connections (CLC 12)
Career-Life Connections helps students set goals, make informed decisions, and take responsibility for their future. Building on CLE 10, students explore post-secondary options, careers, wellness, and financial planning.
The course supports students in applying what they’ve learned to their own life path. CLC 12 will help them gain confidence in their choices and awareness of the opportunities ahead.
The capstone project is the final part of this course and a graduation requirement. It gives students a chance to reflect on their strengths and passions and to show how they’re preparing for life after NWSS.
All Grade 12 students are automatically enrolled in CLC 12 as part of their schedule.
Work Experience 12A/B
Work Experience 12 combines in-class learning with real-world job placements.
About 20 per cent of the course takes place at school. The rest is spent working in the community where students can:
- Apply what they’ve learned in class to real-life situations.
- Build connections with employers.
- Practise managing their own schedules.
Work Experience 12 provides a hands-on way to explore career interests and gain valuable experience.
Students will have to apply to Work Experience 12 by submitting a package and undergo an interview.
For more information on applying to Work Experience 12, please email Ms. Gurba, the work experience co-ordinator.
