General questions
Will my grades drop when I join the IB programme?
IB courses are more challenging, but universities recognize the rigour.
Some universities like the University of British Columbia (UBC) use a specific conversion scale for IB marks and value how well the diploma programme prepares students for post-secondary studies.
Where can I find IB course requirements for post-secondary?
Most universities and other post-secondary institutions will have dedicated admissions pages for IB students, which can be found on search engines like Google. For example:
Can I pursue both the IB diploma and the B.C. Dual Dogwood Diploma?
Yes, with some planning.
You’ll need to complete French Immersion through grade 10 and take Sciences humaines 11 before starting IB. In the IB program, you’ll take French “Language B” at higher level (HL).

Can I still do IB if I have commitments outside of school, like sports?
Yes.
Activities outside of school are a key part of the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) requirement and a great way to meet it.
Can I transfer from one IB world school to another?
The IB regional offices work closely with schools to ensure students of all ages can transfer without problems.
However, each IB world school makes its own decision, and not all schools will offer the same combination of courses.
How successful are IB students at applying to universities?
IB diploma holders enjoy a high rate of acceptance at leading universities. In addition, some universities offer scholarships to IB graduates.
Can I take individual diploma courses?
Yes, but you will receive the IB diploma only if you fulfill all the diploma programme’s full requirements.
Students who enroll in individual courses will receive an IB certificate noting the courses they took and the grades they earned. These grades can be used to potentially earn transfer credits for post-secondary courses.
Refer to individual post-secondary transfer credit requirements for information specific to each institution.
I have more questions. Who can I contact for more information?
You may contact your counsellor for more information or email the NWSS IB co-ordinator, Mr. Pawel Korczyk, for help.
