Student Leadership
Queensborough Middle School believes student leadership is important, which is why we aim to foster leadership qualities within every child. Our goal is to provide opportunities for students to develop the skills they need in different areas and in different ways around QMS.
Opportunities for students to be involved in various leadership activities will be posted at the school, announced in classrooms, or highlighted on the QMS website.
Clubs
QMS offers a range of student clubs built around shared interests and curiosity. These clubs provide a chance for students to connect, explore, and challenge themselves creatively, socially and intellectually. For information on current clubs, please speak to the school office.
Examples of past (and present) QMS clubs include:
LEGO Club
LEGO Club is a drop-in space where students can build freely or work from themed kits like “Star Wars” or “Minecraft”, generously supplied by the QMS PAC. It’s a place to explore creativity, meet new friends and have fun. The club meets Wednesdays at lunch and is open to everyone.
Scratch Squad
Scratch Squad is a coding club where students use the visual programming language Scratch to create interactive art, stories, and games. The group meets Wednesdays at lunch.
Yearbook Club
Yearbook Club meets Thursdays at noon for planning and again at 3 p.m. for a 90-minute work session. The team works to create a yearbook that reflects the school year through a mix of stories and photos, with the goal of including every student.
Nine Grade 8 students make up the current team, each taking on roles such as editor, photographer, page designer, or sales lead.
Kindness Club
Kindness Club meets Wednesdays at noon and focuses on promoting compassion in the school and community.
Recent initiatives have included teaching line dancing to seniors, organizing Yellow Ribbon Day (Taking a Stand Against Teasing), Running Buddy Day (linking Grade 5 and Grade 8 students), collecting socks for the Salvation Army Christmas Breakfast, and learning what it means to be a global citizen.
