About our school
Skwo:wech Elementary is a K–5 school in New Westminster’s Sapperton neighbourhood. We offer both Montessori and Regular programs, serving around 460 students with the support of over 50 dedicated staff members.
In 2022, we moved into our beautiful new building and embraced our new name, “Skwo:wech”, meaning “sturgeon” in Halkomelem, in recognition of our commitment to reconciliation. Our school design encourages collaboration and connection with shared learning spaces and stunning views of the Fraser River.
We are proud of our diverse and inclusive school community. Our five learning communities, Salmon, Bear, Wolf, Raven, and Eagle, reflect our ties to the land, river, and sky.
Our students, staff, and families foster a safe, respectful, and caring environment that supports academic, social, and emotional growth. We also offer StrongStart and onsite daycare services to support local families.
We warmly welcome all families, current and new, to our learning community.
Safety procedures overview
Our school follows rules from the Ministry of Education and Child Care to help keep students safe. We expect everyone to behave in a respectful and responsible way and want all students to feel safe and included.
Skwo:wech practices safety (e.g. fire, earthquake, lockdown) drills throughout the year. We ask all parents at the start of each school year to update their contact and emergency information.
In an emergency, the school will work with local police, fire services, the city, health services, and child and family services to respond as needed.
