
District schools are already operating beyond what the buildings and area standards can accommodate. If New Westminster Schools takes no additional steps beyond the expansions projects approved as of June 2023, the district will be short 2,241 student spaces by 2037.
As of the 2023 school year, New Westminster schools are over capacity by nearly 600 students spared across K-12 enrollment with the greatest pressure felt in the Fraser River Middle School community.
