Budget consultation: Survey for 2023-24

The Board of Education is working to develop the budget for the 2023-24 school year, and is currently engaged in consultation that will help inform district priorities for the coming year. We are seeking your feedback to help measure whether we’re on the right track with the proposals currently being considered.

The recommendations being developed build on the work of the last few years, as we continue to take action on our 5 year strategic plan (Our Learning Journey: Strategic Plan for 2019-2024). They are informed by consultations and roadmaps that have already been put in place through various engagement opportunities within our communities. And, the overall goal of the recommendations is to continue on with the investments already made, while we also layer on new pieces that build and respond to the growing needs we’re seeing arise. You’ll see this year that many of considerations we’re looking at are centred around supporting our growing enrollment in our schools, and addressing the related capacity issues we’re facing.

We invite you to take a few minutes to complete this survey and share your thoughts on some proposed ideas and investments for next school year.

*This survey will close at 5pm on April 21st

In addition to the survey, the Board of Education will be engaging in one-on-one meetings with stakeholder and rightsholder groups to further collect feedback. This will include meetings with the New Westminster Teachers’ Union and CUPE 409, the Principals and Vice-Principals Association, the Indigenous Advisory Committee, our District Parent Advisory Council and the Student Voice group at NWSS (who will be providing feedback gathered from the Student Symposium that was hosted on March 27th, which included students representatives from all middle, secondary and alternate programs).

The information collected through these processes, in addition to the months of preparation done by School Board and District staff, will inform the Superintendent’s recommendations to the Board of Education … for discussion, debate and later approval of the proposed 2023-24 school year budget.

All members of the community are invited to join us Tuesday May 2nd, at 6:30 pm, for the Operations, Policy & Planning meeting to see how the Superintendent’s recommendations have taken shape, based in part on your feedback.

We thank you in advance for your time, thoughts and participation. It all makes a difference as we work to shape the learning and working environments that students, staff and families count on.
