Summer Learning 2025 registration
- Registration for K-5 Summer Learning 2025 opens on Monday, April 7 at 9 a.m. and closes on Friday, April 18 at 4 p.m.

- Please note attendance requirements before registering.
Courses are intended for students who are currently enrolled in K-5 in the New Westminster school district or enrolled to start grade one or higher in September. Unless otherwise noted, grade levels listed in the course catalogue reference the grade the student will enter in the new school year.
Please note these classes are approved by the Ministry of Education and Child Care and are not day camps. Student supervision outside of the 9 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. period is not provided and students must be dropped off and picked up on time. Please also note summer learning courses have an attendance requirement. Students who miss two (2) or more days will be withdrawn from the program. |
Classes run, in-person, at Qayqayt Elementary School on the following days for the 2025 summer period:
- Monday to Friday from July 2 to July 18 from 9 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
How to register
Registration is only open to students currently enrolled in the New Westminster Schools (SD40) system.
- Registration opens on Monday, April 7 at 9 a.m. and closes on Friday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
- You will need your child’s PEN number in order to complete the registration form. Please use the Instructions on locating your child’s Personal Education Number (PEN).

Primary Arts Education (Gr. 1-3) | Students will engage in artistic exploration using materials like pastels and paints. |
Intermediate Arts Education (Gr. 4-5) | Students will engage in artistic exploration using materials like pastels and paints. |
Primary ADST (Gr. 2-3) | Explore tools and technologies to extend learning. Students will use Ozobots, Spheros, iPads, etc. to develop creative, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. |
Intermediate ADST (Gr. 4-5) | Explore tools and technologies to extend learning. Students will use Ozobots, Spheros, iPads, etc. to develop creative, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. |
Getting Ready for Grade One (Entering Gr.1) | For current kindergarten students. Take part in this hands-on course designed to stimulate minds in playful ways through activities in a social setting. |
Primary Hands on Science (Gr. 1-3) | Students will learn scientific principles and methods through fun, exploratory activities. |
Intermediate Hands on Science (Gr. 4-5) | Students will learn scientific principles and methods through fun, exploratory activities. |
Learning Through Nature (Gr. 1-3) | Develop skills across the curriculum through hands-on learning, including how to identify plants, scientific study of plant cycles, exploring local animals, and more. |
Primary Numeracy and Literacy Skill Development (Gr. 1-3) | Get a jump start for September! Students will learn to improve their skills and confidence with the printed word and numbers. |
Intermediate Numeracy and Literacy Skill Development (Gr. 4-5) | Get a jump start for September! Students will learn to improve their skills and confidence with the printed word and numbers. |
Music (Gr. 1-5) | Learn to create, rehearse, and perform collaboratively through music education. Students will use body percussion, instruments, and voice to create music through play. |
Primary Sports and Recreation (Gr. 1-3) | Develop and hone your physical abilities through athletics. Learn the benefits of regular physical activity and learn how to be active in the school and community. |
Intermediate Sports and Recreation (Gr. 4-5) | Develop and hone your physical abilities through athletics. Learn the benefits of regular physical activity and learn how to be active in the school and community. |
English Language Learners: Literacy for Primary Students (Gr. 1-3) | ELL primary students will learn basic literacy techniques and strategies. |
Writers Workshop (Gr. 1-3) | Learn to work together to build ideas, frame thinking, and use writing to communicate in a powerful way. |
Story Workshop – A Playful Approach to Early Literacy (Gr. 1) | Students will learn early literacy through fun and engaging storytelling. |
Literacy Skill Development: Writing Through Reading (Gr. 3-5) | Students will practice and develop literacy skills and techniques through analytical reading and writing. |
