District searching for Audit Committee advisor
New Westminster Schools (SD40) is looking for a community member to serve as an advisor to its Audit Committee. The committee’s primary role is to oversee the district’s financial reporting process and control structure and report its findings to the New Westminster Board of Education.
Committee duties
Some of the committee’s duties include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing the audited financial statements and recommending approval of the audited statements by the Board of Education.
- Reviewing the external auditor’s assessment of management’s risk mitigation strategies and the appropriateness of internal controls with a focus on safeguarding District assets.
- Make policy recommendations to the Board of Education related to the role of the audit committee.
The advisory appointment will be for a two-year term with the possibility of a second two-year extension at the Board of Education’s pleasure. A committee meets two times a year and as needed.
A stipend will be provided as compensation for the successful applicant’s time.
Candidate eligibility
The advisor should possess the following qualifications:
- Have no relation with New Westminster Schools.
- Possess knowledge about and experience with financial procedures and analysis and have a professional accounting designation.
- Senior-level financial experience (preferably in the public sector).
