Community feedback on the 2026-2027 school calendar
School calendars must follow requirements set by provincial and federal governments. These include including statutory holiday dates, minimum instructional hours under the BC School Act, and Ministry of Education and collective agreement provisions for non‑instructional and professional development days. Because these guidelines determine most calendar decisions, there is limited flexibility for major changes.
In addition to these requirements, New Westminster Schools also aims to align winter and spring breaks with other Metro Vancouver school districts to support families with scheduling.
Members of our community are cordially invited to provide input on the proposed 2026-2027 school calendar. Please share your feedback with us on the proposed calendar by emailing boardofeducation@sd40.bc.ca between February 10, 2026 and February 27, 2026.
