Indigenous education priorities for 2025/26
New Westminster Schools would like to thank and recognize the Qayqayt First Nation and all Coast Salish peoples. We live, learn, play, and work on their traditional lands.
This year, we’re focusing on:
- Making sure Indigenous voices are part of important decisions.
- Building strong connections between schools and Indigenous communities.
- Helping the Indigenous Education Team support students in learning, well-being, culture, and spirit.
- Working to help more Indigenous students graduate.
- Partnering with the Indigenous Education Council.
We will do this by:
- Supporting learning experiences that reflect and respect the diverse cultures in our community.
- Helping students move smoothly into school, between grades, and into post-secondary education.
- Creating a strong sense of belonging for students and staff by making schools safe, inclusive and welcoming.
- Working with community partners to build stronger supports for students.
- Giving staff the tools, training and support they need to grow their teaching and create inclusive classrooms.
