New Westminster Schools became British Columbia’s first district to institute a sanctuary schools policy in 2017. The policy ensures families who live in the community (an “ordinary resident” as defined by the province) have access to schools without fear that their information will be shared with federal immigration authorities, unless in specific cases where it is required by law.
Our Welcome Centre staff are available to help students and their families determine whether they are classified as international, fee-paying students or qualify for the Sanctuary Schools Policy.
Start a confidential discussion with our registration team to see if the policy applies to your family’s circumstances by emailing us.
