Message to families about the Tumbler Ridge tragedy

Dear Families:

Like many of you, we are devastated by the news of the tragedy that occurred yesterday at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. The Board of Education and New Westminster Schools express our deepest sympathies to the families, students, and staff who are navigating this unimaginable loss.

As a symbol of our solidarity and a tribute to the lives lost, flags at all schools and facilities have been lowered to half-mast.

We know news of this nature can be deeply unsettling and may raise difficult questions at home. Students who are struggling with this news are encouraged to contact school counsellors for additional support or a safe space to talk.

In times of tragedy, we find strength in our connection to one another. Please join us in keeping Tumbler Ridge in your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Sluis
Chair, Board of Education
