You’re invited to Discover New Westminster Schools

We’re excited to be able to welcome parents, caregivers, students and the whole community to our “Discover New Westminster Schools” event for 2023. This in-person event is a showcase opportunity for everyone to learn more about what’s happening in our classrooms and our schools.

When: Tuesday, January 10th, 2023, starting at 6:30pm
Location: New Westminster Secondary School

Here’s what you can expect from the evening:

  • 6:30-7:00 – Formal welcome and presentation for all, in the NWSS gym
  • 7:00-8:30 – Booth tours for elementary and middle school families, and for members of the community, through the Grand Commons
  • 7:00-7:45 – Breakout sessions for Grade 9 to 12 course planning:
    • For students entering grade 9: stay in the gym
    • For students entering grade 10: Learning Commons (library)
    • For students entering grade 11: Rooms 3002 & 3004
    • For students entering grade 12: The theatre
  • 7:45-8:30 – Booth tours for secondary school students and families

With over 25 booths to explore, you’ll have an opportunity to learn and ask questions about a wide range of the programs we offer, the work that’s happening and the interesting opportunities available to students, staff, families and the public. That includes booths that will feature:

  • What’s happening at the Welcome and Wellness Centres
  • Opportunities to learn about various programs offered across the district, like French Immersion, Montessori, IB and Home Learners
  • Highlights from the Indigenous Education team
  • Inclusive Education supports available for students
  • Opportunities to connect on the diversity, inclusion and SOGI work we’re engaged in
  • What’s new in our arts, trades training, ADST and Early Learning programs

No matter what your connection to our schools are, we’re sure you’ll have a chance to learn something new about what’s happening in New West!

Discover New Westminster Schools week continues: Programs of Choice Information meetings

For those who are interested in finding out more about one of our specific Programs of Choice, the Discover New Westminster Schools event will continue throughout the week, with online meetings about each individual offering. The virtual sessions will provide you an in-depth look at what the programs offer students and how applications or enrollment are handled for each.
