Home Learners Program application window opens

On Monday January 24th we will be opening the application window for another of our Programs of Choice: the Home Learners Program.

The Home Learners Program is run out of the Hume Park Learning Centre, and offers students in kindergarten through grade eight a hybrid model of learning … combining face-to-face and home learning, our BC certified teachers support parents and students in developing their own learning paths for their families.

A parent information session will be held on Thursday, January 27th at 5:45 pm, for all those interested in learning more. You can join the virtual session here: Click here to join the meeting

The Home Learners Program in New Westminster is currently offered under the Distributed Learning policy. The Ministry of Education has made revisions to this policy. We made the decision to delay the application window from other Programs of Choice, to allow time to get more clarity on a few key possible outcomes related to the changes. As the start of the application window was delayed a week, we will also extend it accordingly.

Families who are interested in applying to the Home Learners Program must submit their “Show of interest” form between January 24th at 9am and February 18th at 4pm. The link will be added to this page when application window opens: https://newwestschools.ca/our-schools/registration/registration-information-forms/

All families who express a show of interest within this window will be contacted by no later than March 11, 2022 to determine the next steps in seeing if the program is the right fit for your family – at which point we should also be better able to speak to whether or not we anticipate any adjustments to the program as a result of the Ministry review process. Priority placement into the program will follow those outlined in Administrative Procedure 220.
